MAJLIS GRADUASI (TINGKATAN 5) 2022

GRADUATION CEREMONY (Form 5 ) - 2022

The Form 5 Graduation Day is organized by St Paul's Secondary School for Form 5 students as a sign of appreciation for the 5th Form students who are now in their final year of school. Graduation day is a remembrance day for them as school leavers. It was a day filled with joy and pride as the students went on stage to receive their graduation scrolls witnessed by parents, family members and teachers. After spending their academic school years in St Paul’s, they have achieved this significant milestone in their lives and are now graduated as young men and women of caliber.

Once again, representing the Alumni Association, I was invited to attend and officiate the Graduation Ceremony held at the school hall on the 11^th Jan 2023.

Majlis Graduasi Tingkatan 5 ini dianjurkan oleh Sekolah Menengah St Paul untuk pelajar Tingkatan 5 sebagai tanda penghargaan kepada pelajar Tingkatan 5 yang kini berada di tahun akhir persekolahan. Hari graduasi adalah hari kenangan buat mereka sebagai lepasan sekolah. Ia adalah hari yang penuh dengan kegembiraan dan kebanggaan apabila para pelajar naik ke atas pentas untuk menerima skrol pengijazahan mereka dengan disaksikan oleh ibu bapa, ahli keluarga dan guru. Selepas menghabiskan tahun persekolahan akademik mereka di St Paul, mereka kini telah mencapai pencapaian penting dalam hidup mereka dan telah lulus sebagai lelaki dan wanita muda yang berkaliber.

Sekali lagi, saya mewakili Persatuan Alumni dijemput hadir dan merasmikan Majlis Graduasi yang diadakan di dewan sekolah pada 11hb Jan 2023.

Majlis Anugerah Kecemerlangan Pelajar (𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭)

Student Excellence Award Ceremony - 2021

Venue: St Paul's Sec School, Beaufort, Sabah.

Once again, the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association of St Paul’s School was invited to attend and grace the MAKEP 2021 held at the school hall on the 23^rd June 2022. The ceremony was supposed to hold last year, 2021 was duly postponed to this date owing to the prevailing pandemic Covid-19 which was still persisted.

As Chairman of the Alumni Association (SPSAA), I was given the honour to officiate the ceremony. Presences at the said ceremony were Asst Secretary, Mdm Chan Suk Ting and EC member cum School Board Chairman, Mr. Vincient Kok.

Sekali lagi, Jawatankuasa Eksekutif Persatuan Alumni Sekolah St Paul telah dijemput untuk menghadiri MAKEP 2021 yang diadakan di Dewan Sekolah pada 23 Jun 2022. Majlis yang sepatutnya diadakan pada tahun lepas, 2021 telah ditangguhkan ke tarikh ini kerana wabak Covid-19 yang masih berterusan ketika itu.

Saya selaku Pengerusi Persatuan Alumni (SPSAA) telah diberi penghormatan untuk merasmikan majlis tersebut. Turut hadir ke majlis ialah Penolong Setiausaha, Puan Chan Suk Ting dan ahli EC merangkap Pengerusi Lembaga Sekolah, Encik Vincient Kok.

12th & 13th AGM - SPSAA

PHYSICAL CUM HYBRID FORMAT MEETING STYLE

For the first time the 12^th and 13th Annual General Meeting of SPSAA was conducted successfully at the Venetian Club, on the 19^th Jun 2022 by means of physical cum Hybrid style of meeting. With this new format, members of SPSAA living outstation or abroad can participate the AGM online via the handphone or computer.

The 12^th AGM was not held in the year of 2021 owing to the surge of covid-19 cases in the State throughout and was postponed to held together with the 13^th AGM on the same date with the approval of ROS. Twenty three members attended the AGM where lunch was served at 12.00PM before commencing of the meeting.

As the 13th AGM was an election year, the new team for the period of 2023/2025 was also elected during the meeting. Practically, the whole former committee was re-elected for the new term except for a change in one of the internal auditors. Mr. Johnny Ting was unanimously appointed as our new Legal Advisor for SPSAA.

TRIBUTE TO DATUK STEPHEN FOO

Datuk Stephen Foo and I go a long way back as we were part of a badminton group and we used to meet once or twice a week. Had many good discussions on many matters during the breaks.

When the idea was mooted to form the St. Paul’s Schools Alumni Association and I announced it in middle of 2008, I requested for his help in formulating the constitution of the Association. He readily agreed and we met at my house over many months to come up with the constitution.

His heart was fully into forming the Association. I remember also going to see the Anglican Bishop then, Bishop Yong Ping Chung together with Datuk Stephen Foo to inform him on the formation of the Association.

His contribution towards designing the constitution was crucial to the Association being formed as there was no hitches when we presented it to the Registrar of Societies.

Truly a St.Paulian.

TRIBUTE TO OUR LEGAL ADVISOR, THE LATE DATUK STEPHEN FOO

On the 3^rd of June 2021 at 1.48 PM, I received a text message from a fellow St Paulian, informing me that Datuk Stephen Foo has passed on at the Gleneagles Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It was a sure reluctance to believe initially until the announcement came in from the family, several hours later confirming so. It was indeed a depressing mood to acknowledge that sad news. He demised at the age of 78 years old.

Datuk Foo who was one of the senior St Paulians especially with the Protem Chairman, Datuk Allan Mathews ( and together with few other seniors) was instrumental in setting up the St Paul’s Schools Alumni Association back in 2008. As a legal practitioner, he was the person who spent most time in scrutinizing the Association’s Constitution during the protem stage to ensure it was of best befitting the new association.

I began to get closer to Datuk Foo in 2012 as I was then elected as Asst Secretary. Together with the then secretary, the late Mr. Chan Kok Hwa, we used to consult Datuk Foo on various legal matters in regards to the association. When I took over the secretary post in 2016, the friendship became even closer. I have several opportunities meeting him at his office in Wisma Merdeka. Apart from the Association’s matters we would spent time chatting about the school, it’s history and also our hometown, Beaufort back from the olden days. I always enjoyed the kind of untold stories he shared during his youth days in Beaufort.

I am very thankful to Datuk for his all-time passion on the Association’s well being. As an enthusiastic St Paulian and a responsible legal advisor, Datuk has never miss any of our AGMs except for the year 2020 (11^th AGM) owing to the severe pandemic affecting the State. He was always nominated as our Election Chairman during any election year to elect a new board.

We shall dearly miss his absence and of course his 13 years of contribution to the St Paul’s Schools Alumni Association, Beaufort, Sabah will always be remembered by the former and present Executive Committee Members.

11th Annual General Meeting 2020

11th AGM - SPSAA

The 11th Annual General Meeting of SPSAA was conducted successfully at the Venetian Club, on the 6^th Sep 2020. Twenty three members attended the AGM where lunch was served at 12.30PM before the commence of the meeting. This year's AGM was conducted under a different atmosphere (new norm) as in view of the current RMCO SOP which is still being enforced.

As the 11th AGM was an election year, the new team for the period of 2020/2022 was also elected during the meeting. Datuk Chin, who helmed the chairmanship for 4 consecutive terms turned down new nomination as the new Chairman, although the attendances requested so. However, he was unanimously appointed as our Advisor for SPSAA.
